Jaguar Land Rover is apparently unable to take action against the Chinese company producing an SUV that bears more than a resemblance to its Range Rover Evoque.
On Monday at the Shanghai Auto Show, JLR’s Ralf Speth said the British company owned by Tata would just have to live with the Landwind X7 that was also at the show, according to Autonews Europe.
“There are no laws, there’s nothing to protect us, so we have to take it as it is,” Speth said.
In November, Speth called the Landwind X7 intellectual property theft and vowed to pursue actions against its manufacturer. As well as similarities in appearance, the Landwind is also powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with manual or automatic transmissions, but is expected to sell for roughly a third of what an Evoque costs in China.
The Evoque recently went on sale in China, produced at a factory near Shanghai with partner Chery.
