Good parenting and fuel economy to be precise. In fact, simply by watching this ad you’ll know instantly what type of car you’d have to drive in order to keep your kids in check. And yes, that is sarcasm.
Seriously now, even though this video is (a little) funny, we can’t help but pick on it because it’s also equally ridiculous.
We’re obviously OK with VW suggesting that by driving a Passat TDI, you’ll stop for gas less frequently than you would in a 300C or a Charger. Makes plenty of sense. No need to debate that.
But then they’ll have us believe that parents would ever let their kids out of the car and into a gas station by themselves, while they’re refueling the car? Furthermore, those kids are into some serious Dennis the Menace type of destruction. Haven’t seen this much chaos since Ultron went after the Avengers.
We’re also somewhat on board with VW suggesting that you could do up to 814 highway miles/tank, or about 1,310 km. You’d need a lot of luck to pull that off in real life, but there’s no denying that this is one seriously green machine compared to its direct rivals in the U.S.
That being said, we’re looking forward to VW’s next Passat TDI ad, though not nearly as much as VW USA is looking forward to selling a new generation Passat – since they’re clearly running out of ideas with this one.
