After just two races in the 2015 F1 season, fans are split into two camps – those who think Mercedes will dominate the year and those who think Ferrari is going to steal the title from them.
But what if there’s a third option? Now hear me out, because this might “surprise” a few people. What if, Ferrari winning in Malaysia was nothing more than a team other than Mercedes taking a step forward in performance, managing their tires properly and utilizing what proved to be, overall, a better race strategy?
That might be exactly what Mercedes F1 boss Toto Wolff is trying to suggest by saying that there is “no reason to panic.”
And why would there be one? Just because they happened to not win a race? It’s not like they won every single race last year either.
Wolff added that “We have everything we need. We feel confident that with the amount of resources we have, the stuff we have, we are well placed,” before confirming what this is, is maybe the start of a new battle, but one which “we would like to take on, a challenge we want to take on.”
Without more data on our side, there’s no reason to believe that Ferrari will even win another race the entire year. There is simply nothing backing that up, unless it’s what you choose to believe. But since sports media generally tends to overreact and call one misstep as being the “end of an era” type of thing, it’s no wonder why Ferrari have already been crowned as title contenders.
Just because they may win a race or two and be competitive in a bunch of other races, we should still be patient and see how things develop over the course of the next few races.
