Apparently, someone got a hold of a facelifted BMW F30 3-Series sedan’s VIN that reveals the 2016MY 340i engine’s basic specs.
BMW has long abandoned the practice of associating its secondary nomenclature with displacement, so the 340i that replaces the current 335i doesn’t have a 4.0-liter straight-six gasoline mill but a new 3.0-liter turbocharged six that purportedly delivers 240kW, equal to 326PS or 322HP.
That’s the same output as the M235i’s 3.0-liter turbo six, however, while the former uses BMW’s N55 engine, the 340i adopts the newer B58.
The only other interesting find in the vehicle information list sourced from the F30Post forums is the availability of a new color named Mediterranean Blue.
According to a previous report, the North American market 2016MY 328i will not be renamed to 330i, but it will swap the current N20 2.0-liter turbocharged four with a newer B48 engine with a 2.0-liter displacement and a twin-scroll turbocharger. The same unit is used in several newer BMW Group models, including the F56 MINI Cooper and BMW’s 225i Active Tourer where it produces 231PS (228hp). We still don’t know how many horses it will deliver in the 328i.
Europe may also gain BMW’s new 1.5-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder diesel and gasoline engines.
Elsewhere, the facelifted 3-Series will gain subtle exterior tweaks and an updated infotainment system.
