Mercedes had yet another great weekend in Formula 1 as their two drivers finished P1 and P2 in China, fending off Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel with relative ease.
However, shortly after the race and to everyone’s surprise, Nico Rosberg was angry with his teammate, implying that Hamilton was trying to slow him down and serve him to Vettel on a hot plate.
We just have to say, you can easily tell how passive-aggressive Rosberg was regarding what he told Lewis. His reaction to Lewis saying that he’s not responsible for both drivers on the track, just himself, was: “It’s just now interesting to hear from you Lewis that you were just thinking about yourself with the pace in front when necessarily that was compromising my race.”
Rosberg followed that by saying “Driving slower than was maybe necessary at the beginning of stints meant that Sebastian was very close to me and that opened up the opportunity for Sebastian to try that early pitstop to try and jump me. And then I had to cover him. So, first of all it was unnecessarily close with Sebastian as a result, and also it cost me a lot of race time as a result because I had to cover him and then my tyres died at the end of the race because my stint was just so much longer.”
Mercedes boss Toto Wolff said that “there wasn’t any intention from Lewis to slow Nico down in order to make him finish third or worse,” which we believe. Plus, Lewis saying that if Nico wanted to get by, he should have just made a move, is absolutely true. The “move” never came.
Fans of the team will be relieved to hear that both drivers allegedly put the incident behind them and are now focused on the race in Bahrain, which is only a few days away.
