For BMW E31 fans, it doesn’t get any better than this: the limited production Alpina B12 5.7 Coupe of which only 57 units were built between 1992 and 1996.
Finding one these days is a rarity, but if you can afford it, there’s a very low mileage example offered for sale right now on Mobile, but it will cost you an arm and a leg at €245,000, equal to $264,000 or about two brand-new BMW i8s and from 4 to 6 used BMW 850CSis upon which the Alpina is based, depending on condition.
And yes, we’ll agree with you if you think that the seller’s pictures are a joke for a car listed at a quarter of a million dollars…
Alpina built two models out of the E31-codenamed 8-Series, 97 units of the 850i/Ci-based B12 5.0 Coupe with a 350PS (345hp) offered exclusively with an automatic, and 57 units of the car featured here that was based on the 850CSi available with a 6-speed manual or an optional Shift-tronic transmission.
The B12 5.7 Coupe enhanced the 380PS (375hp) 5.6-liter V12 850CSi with a slightly larger displacement 5.7-liter V12 featuring a number of upgrades such as the reprogrammed ECUs and modified intakes to develop 416PS (410hp) and 570Nm for a 0-100km/h (62mph) sprint in 5.8 seconds and a top speed of 300km/h (186mph).
Minor changes were made to the front suspension, with Alpina’s version of the 850CSi gaining 18-inch wheels shod in 245/40 tires front and 285/35 rear, and some cosmetic upgrades like the vented carbon-fiber hood, front spoiler and a blue-background for the instrument dials.
This particular B12 5.7 Coupe has only 45,000km (just under 28,000 miles) on the odometer, but it seems to have been sitting for quite some time.
