Porsche, motivated by the big success the Cayman GT4 proved to be, is currently contemplating the build of a Boxster Spyder GT4 version.
The Cayman GT4 is considered Porsche’s most hardcore manual model you can buy right now, using 911 GT3 parts for its suspension and brakes combined with a Carrera S engine, allowing the mid-engined chassis to perform closer to its true potential. Demand for the hottest Cayman is going crazy right now, surpassing every prediction Porsche has made.
A senior source at the company said to UK magazine Autocar, “We are looking at it right now. Much of the engineering has already been done for the Cayman, so we think this might be a good direction for us.”
The Boxster Spyder already uses the same 3.8-litre flat-six engine the Cayman GT4 has, producing 370hp and mated to a six-speed manual only. The transformation to a full-fat GT4 model would only require installing the GT3-derived front suspension and brakes, the GT4’s rear suspension and the usual, more aggressive aerodynamic agenda.
Save the manuals Porsche, we are right there with you.
