Do you think Chevrolet shouldn’t have a car called the Bolt while they have a Volt in the lineup? Too bad, they’re doing it anyway.
General Motors’ global marketing leader Tim Mahoney told USA Today Tuesday the production version Chevrolet Bolt Concept electric vehicle that appeared in January at the Detroit Auto Show will keep that name. That name sounds a lot like the 2016 Chevy Volt, the second-generation plug-in that debuted alongside the Bolt in Detroit.
Following its reveal, there was a lot of speculation whether the Bolt would get a different name, maybe because even GM execs were mixing up the Bolt and the Volt at the Detroit press conference. Mahoney, however, told USA Today the close association between the two, “connotes good things.” I still hear confusion, but whatever.
GM said the Bolt concept was designed to provide 200 miles of electric range and start at $30,000 when it was released in production form sometime in the next couple of years.
