Billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal tweeted on Tuesday that he would give a Bentley to each of the 100 Royal Saudi Air Force pilots who took part in the Saudi-led bombing operations over Yemen.
The tweet has since been deleted, but not before several outlets took a screen shot of the message, which according to a translation from IBTimes, reportedly read,
“I congratulate our wise leaders on the victory of Operation Decisive Storm and the beginning of Operation Restoring Hope. To recognize the one hundred participating Saudi pilots I am pleased to present them with 100 Bentley cars“.
At this point, it’s not clear why the tweet was deleted. Some Saudi Arabian outlets suggested that the prince’s account may have been hacked, but this has not been confirmed, while Alwaleed bin Talal’s office has not responded to messages to comment on the matter, according to The Economic Times.
The tweet caused a media frenzy on the net, with many users reacting negatively to the prince’s alleged offer citing the humanitarian crisis in the country where at least 944 people were killed and 3,487 were injured during in Operation Decisive Storm, according to the World Health Organization.
