Skoda apprentices have built a pickup concept based on the all-new Fabia, which will be unveiled at the GTI Meeting in Wörthersee, Austria (May 13-16).
Called the FUNstar, the study was previewed at the Skoda Academy in Mlada Boleslav, Czech Republic, in the presence of the 23 apprentices aged 17 to 18 who were responsible for building it.
The Skoda FUNstar has a frameless body with reinforcements on the side panels and a wider B-pillar designed to keep it together following the transformation from hatchback to pickup. The bed floor is made from stainless-steel.
The study is powered by the 121hp (122PS) 1.2 TSI petrol engine mated to a 7-speed DSG. The apprentices initially wanted to equip the concept with a 1.8-liter TSI petrol but it didn’t fit in the engine bay. Still, the bonnet features air vents as if a very powerful engine was
Design-wise, the FUNstar features combines a white and gray paint scheme with green accents (even the LED daytime running lights are green) and rides on 18-inch wheels sourced from the Octavia RS.
The interior features a sports steering wheel and seats, as well as a 1,400-watt sound system with a 200-watt subwoofer. The study will obviously remain a one-off, just like last year s CitiJet concept (also built by apprentices).
