Tesla was very late to release its April Fools video, probably due to the discrepancy between California’s time zone when compared to everything else to the east. However, while you can immediately tell it’s a spoof, the feature itself is rather clever.
Yes, the manufacturer could never sell you a “parking ticket avoidance system,” because it would be illegal, but it could be hacked into the system by third-party developers.
As the video shows, the system can move the car along when it senses a parking officer nearby. If said officer gets too close to the car and attempts to place the ticket on the windscreen, the car will fire up the wipers and continue moving along the curb.
If that fails, then the car will leave the side of the road and start driving around the block slowly until you return and it picks you up.
The technology to achieve this is already in the car, or on the verge of being introduced, and all that’s needed to get it to work is a coder with a sense of humor… and a good lawyer.
