Yes, this is the recurring post you keep seeing after each Chinese motor show. Since there were several doppelgangers at this year’s edition of the Shanghai motor show, we though it would be a good idea to ask you to pick the one you think is the most blatant.
Some of the models you may know from past posts, while some will be refreshingly new. The Beijing Auto BJ40L and BJ80C will be familiar, as will the Dongfeng Number 1 Concept, but there are others which are probably completely new. The Land Wind Range Rover Evoque clone needs no introduction either.
Dongfeng’s own S500 minivan is a fresh example, and if you were wondering which western model it mirrors, that’d be the Mercedes Vito (also known as the Metris in the US). Another car that’s new to our eyes is the SAIC-GM-Wuling Baojun 560, a clear effort to recreate the VW Tiguan crossover.
Want more new stuff? How about the Lifan X40, which from the front looks exactly like the (facelifted) Hyundai iX35 (known Stateside as the Tucson Sport). Pretty much the same description applies to the JAC S2 (the red one in the last three photos).
JAC has a really strong candidate to be this year’s most blatant copy, I think. Its A60 sedan looks exactly like a bad effort to make an Audi A4/A6 sedan… a really bad effort. They even copied the interior on this one, although, to be fair, the steering wheel is a bit more VW-esque than it is Audi, so at least it has that (and a tasteful analog clock for the discerning Chinese buyer).
The Hongqi LS5 SUV has already been discussed, but it’s amusing how nobody seems to have noticed that while it may have copied the Range Rover in terms of body style, the front is all Jeep Grand Cherokee.
When scrolling through the gallery below, when you get to the turquoise two-seater that kind of looks like a Ferrari, quickly skip to the next photo. You really don’t want to see it if you like either Porsches or Ferraris; it closely resembles an F12 from the front but the profile and back is clearly that of a Cayman.
We don’t know what it’s called, but it’s built by the Chinese manufacturer Eagle and is fully electric. It’s apparently said to be able to pass 100 km/h or 62 mph in under 5 seconds…
Last copy we spotted is the Zotye Z700. It could pass for a Hyundai Genesis sedan from the back easily… The front is a little more ambiguous as to its inspiration, although the shape of the grille is very reminiscent of a Honda Accord’s.
