Now, this custom tuned BMW M5 E39 must be packing quite a hefty punch to go against the 707 hp Dodge Charger Hellcat in the video posted here.
So the owner of the BMW extracted the 4.9-liter V8 the car came with from the factory and reportedly plonked in a 3.2-liter straight-six with a turbocharger. We presume the setup is lighter than the original V8, and the car itself is lighter than the Charger – perhaps that’s its weak point: its sheer weight that can’t be offset with massive horsepower numbers.
It’s still very fast, but clearly it’s not unbeatable by a well sorted modified sedan like itself.
Check out the rolling start race in the video posted after the virtual jump and tell us what you think was the clincher here and if the BMW actually needed less than 707 hp to beat the Dodge given the weight difference: stock E39 M5 weighs 1,795 kg or 3,957 lbs, while the Charger adds some heft to that with its 2,070 kg or 4,560 lbs.
