Besides the XC90 Excellence flagship SUV, Volvo’s lineup for the Shanghai Auto Show also includes an XC90 without the front passenger seat.

The Chinese-owned Swedish automaker has released a teaser video in which Thomas Ingenlath, Volvo’s senior vice president for design, talks about the Lounge Console, a feature that replaces the front passenger seat in an XC90-based concept car.

Volvo says the innovation provides the XC90 “with an even higher level of progressive, modern luxury.” Given that this interior concept will be revealed in China, where the rear-seat passenger is king, we’re guessing the front passenger seat has been removed to allow the occupant behind it to turn his or her seat into a lounge.

Stay tuned for more details as we get closer to the Shanghai Auto Show’s press days (April 20-21).
