In April of 1955, VW established ‘Volkswagen of America’, meaning they’re celebrating their 60th birthday at the New York Auto Show tomorrow where they will debut four special concepts of their most famous nameplate, the Beetle.
The four special edition Beetles are the Pink Color Edition, the Convertible Denim concept, the Convertible Wave and the R-Line study.
Beginning with the Beetle Pink Color Edition and besides the self-explanatory exterior shade, it has R-Line front and rear bumper designs and color-matching interior trims.
The Convertible Denim draws inspiration from the mid-1970s Jeans Bug with a Stonewashed Blue Metallic color and some pretty impressive 18-inch rims on the outside, plus a denim-style upholstery and colors on the inside.
Painted in a Habanero Orange Metallic, the Beetle Convertible Wave also has bright Tornado 19-inch alloys, chromed door mirrors and genuine wood trim in the cabin.
We left the most interesting, from an enthusiast’s perspective, Beetle model for last: the R-Line concept. Powered by VW’s 217hp 2.0-liter turbocharged four, it’s finished in Oryx White Pearl effect paint and has a customized exterior that includes 20-inch alloy wheels, a 0.6-inch wider body than the standard car through the wheel arch extensions, rear diffuser, a large rear spoiler and side decals. Interior upgrades include sport bucket seats and bespoke trims.
While all of these Beetles are concepts for now, VW said that it will be gauging public reaction to see if there’s enough interest to produce one or more of these editions.
