VW started taking orders for the all-new Touran MPV, which has a starting price of €23,350 ($25,425) in Germany.

The new VW Touran offers more interior space, a sleeker design and Euro 6 engines, along with the latest assistance and infotainment systems developed by the automaker.

The new model comes with a total of 47 shelves and a boot volume of 743 liters (26.2 cu-ft) in five-seater configuration, but can optionally be equipped with two extra seats.

All Touran versions get a newly developed fold-flat seat system for increased practicality and functionality, including a lighter set of second row seats that can be folded down to merge flat with the luggage floor.

The new VW Touran is 62kg (137lbs) lighter that the outgoing model, thanks to the use of lightweight construction technologies in the drive systems and bodywork allowed by the MQB platform it’s based on.

The MPV delivers up to 19 percent better fuel economy than the previous model, thanks to the lighter weight, improved aerodynamics and fuel-efficient engines. At launch, the VW Touran will be offered with two turbocharged petrol (TSI) engines delivering 110PS (108hp) and 150PS (148hp), as well as and two diesels (TDI) rated for 110PS (108hp) and 150PS (148hp).

Later on, an 180PS (178hp) TSI and 190PS (187hp) TDI will follow. All engines are offered as standard with start-stop and recuperation systems. VW says the seven-seater version fitted with the base 1.6-liter TDI and a 7-speed DSG consumes just 4.1 l/100 km (57.4 mpg US or 68.9 mpg UK).

Deliveries in European markets begin in September.
