Audi seems determined to offer a complete range of SUVs and crossovers. The fact that the car manufacturer from Ingolstadt plans to build a small SUV can’t be classified as news anymore. It never was a secret and even Audi confirmed it. The entry-level Q1, as it will be called, is set to make its debut in 2016.
Just in case you had any doubts, we even showcased you a rather odd-looking Volkswagen Tiguan, not so long ago, that was actually a development mule for the upcoming Q1 mini-SUV.
The future range-opener of Audi’s SUV lineup will compete against the likes of Mini Countryman, Fiat 500X and Nissan Juke, as the four-ringed carmaker rushes to introduce its offspring in the mini-SUV segment, which is getting more and more crowded with every passing day.
The Q1 will be based on the smallest version of the new MQB platform and although it’s too early to speculate, it’s possible to carry some engines from the A1 and Q3 models.
So, we know what it’s going to be called, we know what to expect from it, but we don’t really know how it will look. Well, Top Speed thinks it has an idea with the rendering you see here.
The actual Q1 will be penned under Marc Lichte’s supervision, Audi’s new design chief, who stated in an interview for Fortitude that “the design has been finalized and the car is very attractive”.
