The BMW M6 GT3 customer race car is a year away from its competitive debut, but the automaker is already showing it to people.
The M6 GT3 made an appearance at the Nürburgring 24 Hours over the weekend as the “star guest” at the M Night, which was the official opening of the fifth M Festival. Unfortunately, the car was still wearing camouflage.
When BMW works driver Jörg Müller drove the BMW M6 GT3 onto the stage, BMW Motorsport customers from all over the world had already been given a first exclusive look at the car at a “Closed Room” event at the BMW M Test Centre in Nürburg.
During the event, drivers and engineers gave them a detailed presentation of the car. The BMW M6 GT3 is powered by the 4.4-liter V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology, which has been “slightly modified” compared with the unit from the production car.
The powertrain with dry sump lubrication generates 500hp and “impressively high torque,” although exact figures weren’t communicated. “That will definitely make it easier for us to overtake coming out of slow corners,” Müller explained how drivers will benefit from the high torque during races.
Weighing less than 1,300kg (2,866lbs), the M6 GT3 features a transaxle drive concept, six-speed sequential racing transmission and chassis, with the longer wheelbase tipped to significantly improve handling compared to the current BMW Z4 GT3.
