You’d imagine the name “Gigafactory” would imply a plant of vast proportions, one of the biggest the world has ever seen. It’s the name of Tesla Motors’ upcoming battery pack manufacturing facility that is currently being built just outside Reno, Nevada.
The video posted below shows the current state the building is in, and it’s already looking like the main structure is all done. Obviously, bringing in all of the machines necessary for production will be just as big a task as putting up the building itself – it should all be set up in preparation for the 2018 launch of Tesla’s smaller sedan.
Size-wise, the Gigafactory is genuinely huge. If you check out the convenient size comparison, you’ll see it’s comparable to the Boeing Everett factory known to be the biggest building in the world by volume.
When completed, the Gigafactory will employ some 6,500 people in total and produce the 55 GWh of batteries annually.
