The Gumball 3000 rally is in full swing now and each year it seems to get faster, louder, better and more exotic.

This year, by attending the Gumball 3000, participants vowed to make a transatlantic journey from Stockholm to Las Vegas in some of the most outrages cars we’ve ever seen.

The 17th annual rally began on Sunday, May 23, in Stockholm and the starting grid was mental. Whoever thought bringing a V12 Lamborghini LM002 along for the ride surely made a big impression. There are almost 100 cars registered in the rally and some of them will be flown Wednesday, May 27, from Amsterdam to Reno to continue the race to Las Vegas.

Anyway, the starting grid in Sweden pointed out how Gumball really is – outrageous, silly and fun. It doesn’t take itself very seriously, does it? Wrapped supercars paraded one after another, delighting the audience; those who expected only nouveau riche automobiles were in for a big surprise as an F50 and a 250 Testa Rossa rolled up on the scene.

The F50 sure is the real deal, but we can’t say the same for the Testa Rossa. Even at historical events – like Mille Miglia – this $16,000,000 model remains a rare sight to be seen. But even if it’s a replica, thinking someone would drive 3,000 kilometers sounds extravagant.

John OIsson and his DTM inspired, former-Konigsegg-employee designed, 950 BHP RS6 could not have missed this event, but the trio of Porsche 918 Spyders are the real showstoppers.

We can’t wait for the competitors to get across the pond and see what cars they have prepared to use in the second part of the trip. Meanwhile, you can watch how the European starting grid unfold and point out your favorite car.
