Hyundai has announced UK pricing for its ix35 Fuel Cell, which is known to US customers as the Tucson Fuel Cell. The zero-emission ix35 Fuel Cell has a public retail price of £53,105 on-the-road (OTR), with part-funding from the HyFive project.
The HyFive project saves customers nearly £15,000 off the un-funded on-the-road-price of £67,985. HyFive is a European project that aims to deploy 110 fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) from the five global automotive companies that make up the HyFive consortium, which includes Hyundai.
Available to purchase immediately directly from Hyundai Motor UK, the ix35 Fuel Cell is described by the automaker as the world’s first mass produced fuel cell electric vehicle. The model is already on the road in 15 countries around the world, including 11 in Europe.
The vehicle is powered by a 100kW (136PS or 134hp) electric motor, which sources energy from a 24kWh lithium-ion polymer battery, jointly developed with LG Chemical. Electricity is produced from hydrogen stored in two storage tanks with a total capacity of 5.64 kg. The Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell has a driving range of up to up to 369 miles (594 km) on a single fill and can reach a top speed of 100 mph (161 km/h).
