Lamborghini has just given the green light for the development and production of its second SUV, so let’s try and remind ourselves how utterly brutal their first attempt in the sector was.
The LM002, aka the Rambo Lambo, is one of the most excessive vehicles ever produced and perhaps the coolest SUV ever. This 2,700kg (5,952 pound) military-grade beast was using the same 450hp 5.2-litre Quattrovalvole V12 engine with the Countach, enabling it to sprint from zero to 60mph in 7.7 seconds and on to a top speed of 130 mph or 209 km/h.
Back then, President (ok, dictator) Gaddafi ordered 100 of them for the Libyan army with the cars traced today from an opening flap over the back seats and the mounting points for the machine gun. The fuel tank was simply huge, measuring 76 gallons of capacity, ensuring that your personal safari won’t be abruptly interrupted by the LM002’s drinking problems every two minutes.
This old video from Dutch magazine AutoWeek features a really impressive white example with the journalist trying to show us what it means to drive a Rambo Lambo these days and throws a supercharged Range Rover Sport into the mix, just to show how much things have progressed since the crazy ‘80s. We also added a review from Motorweek.
With just 300 of them made, it is very likely that you will never come across this behemoth but if you do, be a good person and pay your respects to the craziest Lamborghini ever made. I know I will.
