After seeing it at the Geneva Motor Show back in March, we all agreed the new 488 GTB looked astonishing in the flesh. Nevertheless, we felt that its new twin-turbocharged 3.9-litre V8 could spoil the signature Ferrari soundtrack.
Furthermore, with a couple of promotional videos that just didn’t live up to expectations, we thought a low tone muffled exhaust is as good as it gets for the Italian stallion.
To be fair, Ferrari assured us the sound would not disappoint, but we had to hear it to believe it.
So, against all odds, (and thanks to some carparazzis), we can now confirm the engine makes the car howl like a Ferrari should; like a wounded angry animal. In fact, it sounds so good that it can stand tall among its high-end blue-blooded siblings.
The goodies don’t stop here, because the video footage caught a camouflaged 488 Spider and, for some reason, a camouflaged 488 GTB – despite the fact it was officially unveiled to the public. It’s still uncertain how the metallic hardtop folding roof version of the 488 will be called, but GTS sounds about right since B stands for Berlinetta and S could stand for Spider.
