Mazda insists that it has gone to great lengths to not only lighten the new MX-5, but also to balance out the weight so that each axle gets the same.
In doing so, they’ve allowed themselves to be able to drive it onto a fulcrum and then leave it suspended in mid air with no other force keeping it level.
It’s really rather cool, and another great way that Mazda is promoting its cars without making you feel like there’s a lot of marketing fluff around.
Someone with knowledge of welding and some metal can create one of these and try it out for themselves. It’s not like we don’t believe them, but one thing they could have done in the video is just shoot the car from more angles while it’s suspended.
But we’re not worried as somebody is probably already planning on doing it…
