The McLaren F1, the fastest car in the world back in its day, is still a marvel by today’s standards. It may have less computing power and not as good a braking capacity as modern rivals, but for thrill and chest-busting acceleration, it’s definitely a go-to car.

Brutal is the only word you could use to describe the BMW-designed V12 engine. It screams in the higher revs and provides acceleration on par with most modern supercars; sixty comes up in around three seconds, which is what most equivalent models achieve today.

The video posted below, courtesy of EVO, is really a mini-documentary on the F1, a car that surely inspired the route all serious supercars have taken since, and not only that but (apart from its steel brakes) is on par with modern rivals. It also has another unique trait, the feeling of lightness you get when driving it; the body is only around 1,170 kg or 2,579 lbs.
