Why would anyone get a one-off creation such as the Aston Martin DB9 Spyder Centennial and let it go within two years is beyond us, but it’s happening and you’ll soon have the chance to place a bid for it.
The roadster model with the unique appearance was made for American car collector Peter Read and was presented alongside the similarly styled DBS Coupe Zagato Centennial in June of 2013 as part of the celebrations for Aston’s 100th birthday.
The Centennial Spyder started life as a standard U.S.-spec 2013 Aston Martin DB9 Volante and was immediately shipped to Zagato’s facilities in Italy where it was transformed into the car you see in these pictures after about a year’s worth of labor.
The owner showed the roadster at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in the same year and then used it sparingly having covered about 2,300 miles or 3,700 km since new. The car has been serviced twice at an authorized Aston Martin dealership. It’s worth noting that, even though it’s a coach-built model, the DB9 Spyder retains its factory warranty on all of its mechanical components until March of 2016.
According to RM Sotherby’s, the current owner said, “It is definitely reliable and comfortable enough to be driven on a daily basis, should that be the intention of its next caretaker”.
The one-of-a-kind Aston Martin DB9 Spyder by Zagato will be listed for sale at the upcoming 2015 Monterey Auction in California on August 14-15.
