Making expensive cars is certainly easier than producing cheap cars, but Renault seems to be one step ahead of everyone else when it comes to building low-price vehicles.
The latest example is the recently-unveiled Kwid, which for the time being will only be available in India.
In a new video released by the automaker, Renault CEO Carlos Ghosn and Gerard Detourbet, Renault-Nissan Alliance Global Vice President and the man responsible with the Kwid project, share some of the “secrets” behind the new model’s $4,700 starting price.
Probably the most impressive thing is the Renault Kwid’s rate of localization of 97 percent in India, something Ghosn admits the automaker has never done with any other platform in any other market of the world. This basically means 97 percent of the parts needed for the Kwid are produced by Indian suppliers.
However, as the executive also points out, when the Kwid will launch in other emerging markets it will be built locally and not exported from India. You can learn more about Renault’s latest budget car from the video posted below.
