We’re willing to bet that Nico Rosberg can’t wait to get on the track and face off against his teammate Lewis Hamilton in Barcelona. That’s what real competitors do and it’s what Sir Jackie Stewart believes as well.

Speaking to AutosportStewart argued that Rosberg needed the three-week break between races in order to “get his head back in the right place”. Rosberg is currently trailing Hamilton by 27 points in the Drivers’ standings, which means he’s going to need to start winning races in order to catch up.

With Mercedes proving to be both quick as well as reliable, hoping that Lewis doesn’t finish a few races would be too much of a stretch for Rosberg. He has to beat him fair and square, on the track.

Moving on to Lewis Hamilton, Stewart told Autosports that he thinks he’s the fastest F1 driver right now.

“He isn’t peak and valley now at all,” said Stewart. “He seems to be in a better place, is very focused and is taking driving very seriously. We haven’t seen him making too many mistakes and to be honest, I don’t think he can drive much better than he’s driving at the present time. I think he’s the fastest grand prix driver on the track right now. He’s in the groove and will be very difficult to beat if he keeps driving like that.”

Aside from Hamilton, Rosberg also has to worry about Sebastian Vettel (only 1 point behind) and his Ferrari, which is bound to be even faster once racing resumes in Barcelona on May 10.

Another sneaky rival Nico might have to worry about is Vettel’s teammate, Kimi Raikkonen – because the Fin has clearly found his long lost speed and is starting to put up really fast laps during races.

Correction: A previous version of this article mistakenly said that Sir Jackie Stewart believes Nico Rosberg (and not Lewis Hamilton) is the fastest driver in F1
