If you think the R5 Combi was the only interesting car Skoda brought at Worthersee, you better take a look at this thing…

Ok, we’ll be honest, this pick-up truck version of the Fabia is not as cool as the rally inspired one, but taking into account it was created by 23 young Skoda apprentices, we suddenly feel the need to appreciate it.

In fact, it’s a design exercise on wheels, packed with some neat accessories. The flatbed gives it a unique look and it would have been an awesome car, if it didn’t tried so hard to be cool.

In Skoda’s own words, this is a cheeky, fresh, cool, sassy, surprising and fun vehicle – which it’s not. Sure, it drives on 18-inch Gemini rims ( borrowed from the Octavia vRS), it has sills, grilles, hood scoops, stripes, blackened out details and a 1400-watt sound system; but we’re thinking that’s too much, especially at an event like Worthersee, where OEM-plus is the king trend.

At least it stands out by being a pick-up and its metallic steel grey color with nuclear green accents isn’t bad either. Skoda calls it the FUNstar, because apparently, you can have lots of fun with a two-seater mini Pick-Up. It kind of reminds us of the old Felicia Fun, but that one had backseats in the actual flatbed, which meant it was dangerously fun.

The car is laden with LED Technology; it has LED lights mounted below the sidebars, the headlights feature LED tech and green LED light stripes serving as DRLs. Not to mention a green LED stripe neon (as seen in the official photos and video) – which was cool back in 2005.

Its tiny 1.2-litre TSi engine, producing 120-horses, does not quite matches the car’s looks, but we think it makes it a little friskier, since almost half of it is missing.
