Following last week’s design sketches, VW has released the first official photos of the Golf GTI Clubsport, a pre-production study that will debut at the Wörthersee GTI Meeting on May 14.

The Clubsport is an anniversary model which will go into production next year, just in time for the Golf GTI’s 40th anniversary. With an output of 265PS (261hp), the VW Golf GTI Clubsport will slot between the Golf GTI Performance (230PS) and the Golf R (300PS) in VW’s hot hatch lineup.

The model will also feature a boost function which will temporarily increase peak power by 10 percent.

It will be recognized thanks to a distinctive exterior and customized interior, with exterior design modifications including a completely new front bumper, new side skirts, a new roof spoiler and a specially developed rear diffuser.

VW says all these elements were designed with the aim of further increasing the performance of the GTI, with the Clubsport benefiting from significantly improved downforce, which makes the car “extremely stable” at high speeds and allows for “breathtaking cornering speeds.” No performance figures were released, but VW will likely offer more details tomorrow when the car debuts in Wörthersee.
