Toyota has released full details about the new engines offered in the facelifted Auris, along with a new series of photos of the compact model.

Available in Hatchback and Touring Sports body styles with a choice of hybrid, diesel and petrol engines, the new Auris model range also gets new safety and infotainment features.

The Auris Hybrid currently accounts for more than 50 percent of all Auris sales in western Europe and Toyota expects it to grow even further over the next few years.

The 136PS (134hp) 1.8-liter hybrid model offers a combined cycle fuel economy of 3.5 l/100 km (80.7 mpg UK or 67.2 mpg US), with CO2 emissions of just 79 g/km. But the big news in terms of powertrains is an all-new 1.2-liter turbocharged petrol unit developed specifically for Europe and a new 1.6-liter D-4D diesel unit which replaces the 2.0-liter unit.

Joining the existing 1.33-liter Dual VVT-i and 1.6-liter Valvematic units, the 1.2-liter turbocharged engine produces 116PS (115hp) and a maximum torque of 185Nm (136lb-ft) from 1,500 to 4,000 rpm. Mated to a 6-speed manual transmission, this new engine allows the Auris to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 10.1 seconds and reach a top speed of 200 km/h (124 mph).

Average fuel consumption is rated at 4.7 l/100 km (60.1 mpg UK or 50 mpg US), with corresponding CO2 emissions of 109 g/km. The 1.2-liter engine is also available with the Multidrive S CVT, which further reduces both fuel consumption and emissions, to 4.6 l/100 km (61.4 mpg UK or 51.1 mpg US) and 106 g/km respectively.

The new 1.6-liter diesel replaces the 2.0-liter unit and joins the revised 1.4-liter D-4D. With 112PS (111hp) and 270Nm (199lb-ft) of torque between 1,750 and 2,250 rpm, it allows the Auris to cover the 0-100 km/h sprint in 10.5 seconds, with top speed rated at 190 km/h (118 mph). But its main quality is fuel economy, averaging 4.1 l/100 km (68.9 mpg UK or 57.3 mpg US) and 104 g/km CO2.
