Seeing a CLK GTR in the flesh is a special treat, more so if the Uber-Benz happens to have a unique look.
Now, we know these videos are old, but you don’t get to see a barley homologated version of a FIA GT1 car driving around on public roads very often, do you? We presume its limited production numbers had something to do with this.
Here’s a brain bender: there are more original Ferrari 250 GTOs left, than CLK-GTRs built. This car is so rare, it causes a stir when one of the 26 examples pops-up for sale. But here’s the thing: The car is not valuable only for its rarity, but also for its racing and technical pedigree.
So, looking at this CLK GTR parading its look-at-me electric-blue paint job, leaves us with a bitter taste. That being said, the action is happening in 2012 and the color was inspired by the one Mercedes threw on the electric SLS – so, maybe give the owner a break?
No, we totally understand him. An optical overhaul was in order because there were too many like it on the road. Just glaze upon those Challenge Stradale-style stripes, but with the German national colors – That’s a classy act, since its low stance and race inspired looks clearly weren’t enough to grab attention.
Jokes aside, we thought it was cool to share with you guys how a CLK-GTR sounds and looks on public roads. If you neglect its looks, you could have a good time watching these vids. Besides, it’s always pleasant to hear its 6.9-litre 604BHP V12 engine “bark” when downshifting. Purists beware…
