If Peugeot actually built an SW version of the 308 GTI, it would definitely be quick enough to handle the likes of the Leon ST Cupra, Focus ST Sportbreak and Octavia RS Combi.

And that’s what you need to do in order to survive in this segment – you need to cater to your customers’ demands and you need to be competitive against any and all direct rivals.

If we go by numbers, the 308 GTI does pack up to 270 PS at its best, which should work perfectly against the Leon ST Cupra‘s 280 PS – that would be a strong rivalry since neither the Skoda nor the Ford are powerful enough.

Assuming a possible (not probable) 308 GTI SW with 270 PS would hit 100 km/h (62 mph) as quick as the hatchback version (6 seconds flat), it would mean that it would be just as quick as the Leon ST Cupra.

Performance aside, let’s discuss the looks of the 308 GTI SW. Sure, the two-tone paint is still cool (and by the way, this is an absolutely awesome idea that hopefully will catch on with other manufacturers as well) but the car definitely doesn’t look as good as the hatchback – which was to be expected.

But ask yourself, if you were Peugeot would you really care to get into this somewhat dark corner of the segment and launch a SW hot hatch? It’s not like the Focus ST Sportbreak and Octavia RS Combi are selling like hot bread.

What do you guys think, stud or dud?
