Alfa Romeo will reserve the Qudrofoglio Verde suffix only for its worthy, high performance models, says a new report.
According to Dutch magazine Auto Visie, Alfa Romeo plans to replace the QV badge with the Veloce moniker, which will represent the sportier variants of the regular Alfa cars. To put it simply, “Veloce” will be to Alfa Romeo what “ST” is to Ford.
That means the MiTo QV and Giulietta QV will be no more, but don’t freak out; the Veloce option won’t change anything except for the name. So, in the future, expect an Alfa Giulietta Veloce powered by the 240 HP, 1750 TBi petrol engine.
The Veloce name is no stranger to Alfa Romeo; it means “speed” in Italian and it was meant to represent the most sporting cars in the Alfa Romeo range. The very first Alfa to carry this badge was the Giulia Sprint GT Veloce, followed by the 1750 GTV and the 2000 GTV.
Alfa Romeo took this decision in order to use the Qudrofoglio Verde badge exclusively on true high-performance models. Say a future RWD Giulia with a Ferrari-developed V6 twin-turbo, maybe? Maserati Ghibli, watch out!
The QV logo first appeared on Alfa’s Grand Prix racer of the ’20’s, when Ugo Sivocci painted a four-leaf clover on his car for good luck.
