Our spies snagged the very first shots of the next-generation Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG, the crown jewel of the W213 codenamed E-Class series.
Despite the swirly camouflage covering everything except the roof, you can easily tell that there is something special going on with this E-Class tester, starting from the single-bar grille and the muscular front bumper with the large air vents.
Then there’s the hunkered down stance and the big alloy wheels shod in some seriously fat rubber through which we see the gigantic brake discs. And if you’re still not convinced, just take a look at the four-pipe exhausts residing on the corners of the rear diffuser.
Unless Mercedes-AMG pulls a different rabbit out of its hat, the E63 AMG should get a variation of the sub-brand’s new 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 in two states of tune pushing up to 600 horses, paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and the option of all-wheel drive, which may once again be standard in the USA.
And just like the regular models of the W213 E-Series, the E63 AMG will also benefit from the increased use of aluminum and high-strength steel to lose some weight over the current car, further improving handling, performance and economy.
We except to see the AMG-flavored version within a year after the presentation of the standard E-Class in the first half of 2016.
