Renaults just seem to work as retro-revival design projects: the latest Twingo and Alpine are proof of that, but nobody seems to want to re-imagine the bubbly 4 as a modern car.
There was an attempt to recreate it not long ago, but it wasn’t really all that creative, basically copying the old shape and adding modern details and cues to it – it really didn’t work.
This, on the other hand, is much closer to the original spirit of the car, I think. Designer Kayvan Naderi has somehow been able to reinterpret the old shape without copying it.
He’s also expertly worked towards making it look like an official Renault concept… from the late 90s but fresher.
To me this car also shows what kind of talent Renault is missing out on. Clearly this guy has passion for the brand and what he created here I think overshadows Renault’s recent concepts, in both aesthetic quality but also originality and pure style.
Renault was on the right track with the quirky cars it was churning out in the early 2000s, but now it looks like the entire range will look like the Clio. Hurray!
