Audi isn’t planning on letting Tesla have the entire all-electric crossover segment to itself and reports indicate that the automaker may show a concept for such a vehicle at the Frankfurt motor show in September.
According to Automotive News, the “sports activity vehicle” (think BMW X4, X6) will have an on paper range of 500 km or 312 miles which will put it on par with the upcoming Tesla.
It too will feature very aerodynamic design with a swept back profile all to aid efficiency, performance and range. Apparently, they want to make 10,000 of them because according to the source, Audi CEO Rupert Stadler reportedly said that it would otherwise not be worth it.
It’s also a step in a very predictable direction for Audi: it will be yet another SUV-like vehicle added to their range, confirming what we’ve been repeatedly hearing (that they’re going to plump for more SUVs in the range).
The production variant of the expected Frankfurt concept could debut in production form sometime in 2018.
