Since we live in a world where we could all probably use a really good weight loss regime, maybe Audi can get into culinary dieting too.

The all-new Q7 is definitely not a skinny car. What it is however, is “a grand piano lighter” than its predecessor, as Audi points out in the video description. Generally speaking, that’s a 325 kg or 716 lbs weight reduction.

Naturally, losing weight helps a lot when you’re a massive SUV looking for more efficiency, better performance and better handling. But that’s not what the Q7 is all about.

The video also touches on the driver assistance systems as well as the capable EU6 3.0 liter TDI 272 PS engine, which helps get the Q7 from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.3 seconds (6.5 for 7 seater) and on to a top speed of 234 km/h (145 mph).

Other highlights include the Audi Virtual Cockpit (which really does look extremely impressive), the 3D sound system, the optional all-wheel steering system and the versatile drive select system which helps you get the best out of your SUV, regardless of the road you’re on.

Now if only the Q7 was a really (really, really) good looking car…everything about it would have been even more impressive. It’s not that it’s ugly, it’s just not as attractive as the BMW X5, one of its biggest rivals. And lots of people do tend to point that out.

However, being at the top of your game in this segment means that customers will be able to forgive almost any and all aesthetic flaws if the rest of the car is “bullet proof”.
