Renault’s new Laguna will be quite a different proposition to what we have now, as it’s aiming to also replace the larger Latitude sedan that the rhombus brand also sold. It will be a kind of Peugeot 508 that came in to take the place of both 407 and 607.
In this latest set of photos, you can clearly see it’s meant to be an elegant sedan, and not a hatch like its (I think) quite stylish and practical predecessor. The latest prototype was seen testing on a highway in Romania, a place where Renault chooses to test many upcoming models with varying levels of camouflage; additional photos we found show it in Bucharest.
This Laguna is nearly completely covered up, but the camo looks a bit different to the one sported by the previous ones we posted. The rear lights are clearly visible and they bear a striking resemblance to those we saw on camouflaged next-gen Megane prototypes.
The funny thing is that even if Renault smashes it out of the park with the Laguna, the fact that I doesn’t have a snobby badge as well as it being called a name not associated with plushness or quality may deter premium or sub-premium buyers from considering it – the aforementioned 508 is now already in a similar position.
We also found a slightly older video of the Laguna on the move in Spain.
