If there’s one thing worse than getting into an accident while crossing the street, it’s making darn sure that nobody’s to blame but yourself.
Crossing the street is a pretty simple thing. It’s basic really. It’s something we learn as children when our parents talk to us about what the red light means and how we should only cross on “green”.
As adults, it seems that we tend to disregard that type of wisdom and take chances as if nothing bad could ever happen to us. Of course, there are plenty of reasons for jaywalking, which doesn’t mean that it’s justifiable – but if you’re going to do it, at least pay attention to your surroundings so that you don’t get hit by anything.
The woman in this video was crossing the street illegally and actually stopped to “admire” the incoming motorcycle before actually trying to take a couple of more steps and avoid being hit.
The biker couldn’t have done much since having a pedestrian freeze in front of you is basically your worst nightmare. There’s nothing more frightening than having to avoid a person that suddenly becomes unpredictable.
If a pedestrian is running at a constant pace, you can at least calculate a proper avoidance trajectory. If they walk, freeze, try to run, you basically have to decide the second you saw them stand still, if you’re going to avoid them to the left or to the right – which means that they can either try to run backwards or forwards.
Believe it or not, there’s never a guarantee that somebody is going to maintain their momentum.
Luckily, nobody seems to have been seriously injured.
