Aside from the likes of Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg and Sebastian Vettel, 17 year old Max Verstappen is arguably the most talked-about F1 driver this season. Especially after his crash in Monaco.
When Max Verstappen messed up and drove his Toro Rosso into the barriers in Monaco, he probably had no idea it would spark such a controversy as to what really happened.
He could have just let it blow over, instead he chose to go after Lotus‘ Romain Grosjean, accusing the Frenchman of “brake testing” on before T1.
However, it wasn’t all bad for Max, as the added attention also brought many praises for the young rookie driver. F1 analysts generally feel that the 17 year old has an extraordinarily bright future ahead of him, and not necessarily with Toro Rosso.
In fact, it’s probably only a matter of time before he signs with another team – probably Red Bull.
Speculation aside, Max took his dad (former F1 driver Jos Verstappen) out for a ride at Spa a few days ago, in Renault Sport‘s mad 500+ HP, 600 Nm (442 lb-ft) RS 01.
As you probably know, race drivers make for really bad passengers and Max’s dad certainly looks a bit nervous throughout the lap. Even so, he is probably really proud of Max showing such talent and confidence, not only by going all out in Spa with that Renault but also for having already amassed 6 points in the Formula 1 Drivers Standings.
