Toyota has launched the heavily updated Avensis and released a new batch of photos for us to see.
The new Toyota Avensis has been redesigned according to the company’s new design language, matching the styling we first saw in the Auris and Aygo models. The comprehensive update includes new lights all around, bumpers, wheel designs and redesigned side-sills in order to give the Avensis a sleeker, more modern look.
The engine range benefits from the introduction of two new, BMW-sourced diesel engines, which replace the old 2.0-litre and 2.2-litre D-4D units. The smaller 1.6-litre produces 110hp and 199 lb-ft of torque (270Nm) while the larger 2.0-litre makes 141hp and 236lb-ft of torque (320Nm). CO2 emissions are rated at 108g/km and 119g/km respectively.
The updated Avensis also offers as standard a set of electronic safety systems under the name Safety Sense, which includes among other a Pre-Collision system and lane-departure warning.
Prices start from £17,765 for the manual petrol 1.8-litre VVT-I model in the UK market, while the new 1.6-litre D-4D starts at £18,850.
