Nissan’s GT-R LM Nismo was not able to keep up with other LMP1 class cars at this year’s edition of the Le Mans 24h race. All three cars did poorly in qualifying and in the race proper where they all prematurely retired; the highest number of laps clocked was 242 laps in the Tincknell / Krumm / Buncombe car.

What Nissan proved this year is why front wheel drive is nobody’s first choice when it comes to this level of racing… The GT-R LM Nismo had the power, it had the tech and know-how behind it but it was no match for the winning Porsche or any other LMP1.

Performance-wise, it seemed to be closer to the GT class Aston Martins and Ferraris, even if it did easily overtake them one by one…

Nissan posted a video after the race telling us how sorry we should feel for them and how we should appreciate them for participating and finishing. Yeah, they’ll definitely have everything sorted by next year’s race, the easiest fix of course being sending the power to the back; what were they trying to prove here; that odd is good no matter what?
