PSA Peugeot Citroën has announced it will build the Bluesummer electric vehicle for Groupe Bolloré at its plant in Rennes, France.
The news follows a similar deal between Bolloré and Renault involving the assembly of the Bluecar EV at the carmaker’s Dieppe factory.
Under the agreement, PSA will also handle the distribution of the Bluesummer four-seat convertible EV in France. The car offers a driving range of 200 km (124 miles) in the city and 100 km (62 miles) outside the city. It is able to reach a top speed of 110 km/h (68 mph).
France’s largest automaker will begin production of the Bluesummer in Rennes in September 2015, with a daily output of 15 vehicles a day, accounting for a maximum yearly production of 3,500 units.
The deal also includes a collaboration in the area of electric car sharing, where Bolloré has significant experience. The two companies will create a joint venture aimed at developing car-sharing services worldwide using EVs (both passenger and commercial vehicles) as well as conventional cars with low-emissions.
Bolloré has so far developed four electric vehicles (Bluecar, Bluesummer, Bluebus and Bluetram) and owns several electric car-sharing services in France (Paris, Lyon, Bordeaux) and overseas.
“The agreement signed between our two companies reflects the vision that Vincent Bolloré and I share of clean, sustainable mobility solutions that enable us to provide our customers with the freedom to get around, which we consider a fundamental right in today’s society,” said PSA Peugeot Citroën CEO Carlos Tavares.
