You probably don’t remember this 2011 report which stated Red Bull was pondering building a road car, but apparently it’s still a topic of discussion. Infiniti was in on the whole deal and it even materialized in the 552 hp Q50 Eau Rouge (pictured) and the FX SVE.
Even if it does go through, it won’t arrive in the near future. Red Bull will continue to collaborate with Infiniti on performance versions of its road cars until then.
Autocar says Red Bull’s chief technical officer, Adrian Newey, was the one who still admitted they were thinking about the road car project. He reportedly also confirmed to a newspaper that they were “looking for technical partners,” meaning other automakers.
Team Principal Christian Horner is also quoted in regards to this matter. The “relationship with Infiniti has bought us into an automotive sector and we now have involvement in areas where we haven’t been involved as a technology business. The DNA of what we’re doing will start to be felt in future Infiniti products,” he says.
He makes it that they’re still mainly an F1 team / constructor, but that the road car side of things “will organically grow.”
