Even though the next Megane is rumored to debut as early as this September at the Frankfurt Motor Show, these are our first spy shots of Renault’s compact hatch.
Spotted in heavy camouflage in Spain where it’s currently undergoing hot weather testing, the fourth-generation of the Megane has a sportier stance blending elements from the smaller Clio and the upcoming mid-size Laguna sedan – especially up front.
The five-door model seen here will be followed up by a sportier three-door model with a coupe-like appearance and a more practical and roomier estate variant. All Meganes will be built on a new platform jointly developed with Nissan.
Renault officials have said that the new compact model will get a higher quality interior with better materials and tech to address criticisms of the existing Megane.
Both diesel and petrol engines will be on offer, with the French firm’s RenaultSport division to develop a replacement for the acclaimed Megane RS sports hatch.
