Following yesterday’s story about Lexus’ Hoverboard, I did a little research and found out there already is a functional hoverboard, one that actually set a Guinness World Record last month.
Built by Romanian-born Canadian inventor Catalin Alexandru Duru, the propeller-based hoverboard managed to cover a total distance of 275.9 meters (905 ft 2 in) over Lake Ouareau in Quebec, Canada – that’s over twice the length of two full sized football pitches.
Hovering above the water at a height of up to 5 meters (16.5 feet), he had to achieve a distance of more than 50 meters to set a first-ever Guinness World Records title for Farthest flight by a hoverboard. He traveled over five times the required target. Catalin built and designed the hoverboard over the course of 12 months and says it can be used anywhere. Plus, it can reach “scary heights.”
“I wanted to showcase that a stable flight can be achieved on a hoverboard and a human could stand and control with their feet,” he said after the successful record attempt. Scroll down to watch him in action.
