We can safely say that, unlike the guy who hosed down the interior of his brand-new Mercedes CLS, this is one heck of a mess that won’t go (…or dry) away.

What you see here, is the result of a tin of paint that opened when the driver of what we think could be a previous generation Maserati Quattroporte (the white paint kind of makes it hard to tell with absolute certainty), tried to avoid a dog on a road in South Australia.

RAA Insurance Claims Manager, Hayley Cain, explained how it happened:

“The driver swerved to avoid a dog and the tin of paint he’d set on the back seat flew through the air dislodging the lid. As the tin flew around the car like a mini tornado, the leather interior and windscreen were liberally splashed with a thick coat of white paint.”

Ms Cain added that her company decided that the luxury Italian car was a write-off.

“Fortunately the driver was fine, but given the extent of damage to the interior, our insurance assessors declared it a write off and we settled the claim for over $90,000.”
