It may be made in China, but this Maserati Ghibli looks ferociously good. Truth be told, not anyone can make a Ghibli look madder than it already is, but ASPEC – a Chinese tuning house – pulled it off.
Yes, it may sound strange; an Italian gentleman wearing a tailored-made Chinese suit. But does anyone really care about that when the finished product looks like a million… Yuans? You shouldn’t even be impressed by the fact that a Chinese tuning company exists in the first place, as aftermarket car parts are very rare in China and reserved only for the very wealthy.
Known as the PPM500, the car is garnished with an aggressive carbon-fiber aero package that compliments its 470HP and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque ECU upgrade. And that’s on 98 juice, because on racing gasoline the Twin-Turbo V6 outputs 500 Hp and 670 Nm (494 lb-ft), hence the name.
That’s a long way from the standard 325 HP and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque the stock engine developed.
Visually, the car looks like its trying to hunt down Arnold Schwarzenegger, as the front bumper resembles a Predator’s mouth. Just look at those side vents enhanced with teeth-like style cues.
The side skirts enlarge the width of the car and are aerodynamically optimized to increase the stability at high speeds. In fact, ASPEC says that every piece mounted on the car gives it an aerodynamic advantage.
The rear subtle spoiler generates negative pressure and maximizes downforce, for instance. And even the mad looking front lip provides a more effective airflow to the intercooler and oil cooler. The hood vents? Well, those things dissipate heat made by the two turbochargers.
It sounds awfully strange how the entire car was aerodynamically optimized with just a few add-ons. Would the Chinese lie for credibility? We don’t think so.
Anyway, the Ghibli sits on ASPEC VF57 forged alloy wheels – which look awesome – and has an Alcon brake kit and an Eibach adjustable suspension.
Still not impressed? Well, at least it’s more original than other Chinese products.
