We get an early look at Infiniti’s new compact model well ahead of its 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show debut in September.
The photo is titled “Infiniti Q30 2.2d” over at Autowp, but like our tipster, we’re not 100 percent sure if what we’re looking at here is the Q30 or its sister-model, the QX30 crossover.
If we had to guess, we would go with the regular Q30 due to the absence of roof rails and the front bumper design that’s closer to the Q30 concept than the related QX30 study. The production version of the latter should have a more rugged body kit with plastic cladding all around as well.
Infiniti’s rival to the BMW 1-Series, VW Golf and other compact hatchbacks will be the brand’s first model to be built in Europe and specifically, at Nissan’s factory in Sunderland, UK. Both the Q30 and the upcoming QX30 share a modified version of the Mercedes A-Class / CLA / GLA platform.
The 2.2-liter diesel engine featured on the display car here is likely sourced from Mercedes-Benz, as a same displacement unit is used on the European-market Infiniti Q50 in which it puts out 168HP (170PS) and 400Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque paired to either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed auto transmission.
H/T to V!
